Amazon Stripping Sales Ranks When Authors Promote Their Work

November 30, 2017 by Jared Gray

I’ve heard other reports that this happens with a lot of other legitimate promotions in addition to BookBub. Unlike many authors who’ve been (understandably) railing against the personal harm this has inflicted […]

Krista D Ball and The Strong Female Character Trope

September 16, 2017 by Jared Gray

My wife showed me a wonderful, though long, post by Krista D Ball about the trope of the Strong Female Character, how it goes wrong, and how that’s not necessarily what we need anymore. I agree with pretty much everything she wrote. I’ve never fully understood the obsession with making every single female character “strong”, […]

Kerbal Space Program – Lithobraking At Its Best

I’ve played a lot of videogames over the years, from my first Atari 2600 to the 111 games in my Steam library. I’ve put an absurd number of hours into gaming, probably more than any other pursuit aside from sleeping. Unsurprisingly, I have Opinions on the games I play. I have to say that, of […]

No Shit, There I Was, In The Baltic Sea

I just got back from the Writing Excuses Retreat cruise. It will be difficult to properly convey the surreal and amazing experience of attending a writing conference intertwined with a Baltic Sea cruise. Either by itself would have been a wonderful way to spend my time. Together, they were a truly once in a lifetime […]

Failure Is Always An Option

Can a former web application developer figure out how to create his own WordPress site? I suppose we’ll find out. (very appropriate gif stolen from @swear_trek)

Oh, lovely. Android camera now tags all file names with PXL instead of IMG. No way to fix it. Because trying to protect my privacy wasn't hard enough with Google products as it is.

I really, really don't want to join the Cult of Apple, but they keep pushing me that way.

What does it say about our society that I’ve known about the term “schadenfreude” for decades, but only just now learned that it has an antonym: freudenfreude is the enjoyment of another person’s success.

Even autocorrect knows about schadenfreude, but not freudenfreude. https://t.co/D6o6rou5qj
